the problem

existing bookkeeping tools are either pricey or caged: too expensive for small setups, too rigid to extend.

the approach

a general double-entry ledger on sqlite, written in rust for speed. bookings carry metadata, so the same ledger bends to fit almost any tax legislation. in germany that means BWA, EÜR, and UstVA.

the outcome

reports come from read-only queries against the database: shaped freely to everybody's needs, and fast by construction.

small enough to read in an afternoon, boring technology on purpose.
